Even when you have a trusted auto glass repair company like Glass Source saved in your phone, a chipped or cracked windshield is an interruption to your day. The number-one question we get when a customer calls us for help is, How does the insurance claim process work?

Here’s what you can expect when you file an auto glass claim in Minnesota and how Glass Source can help you through the process.

What’s the Minnesota Auto Glass Claim Law?

In Minnesota, most drivers have full glass coverage included in their auto insurance policies. The state requires insurers to provide comprehensive coverage for damaged safety glass regardless of a policy holder’s deductible. An insurance carrier cannot require a minimum claim amount on a safety glass repair claim. You can learn more about Minnesota’s auto glass laws here.

My Windshield’s Cracked. Now What?

Your first call should be to Glass Source or your trusted auto glass repair company. We handle the entire insurance claim process for you. To get the process started, we will need four pieces of information from you:

  1. The date the damage occurred (which is why it’s smart to call us right away)
  2. The name of your insurance carrier (ex: Geico, Western National, Progressive, etc.)
  3. Your insurance policy number (usually between 9 and 13 digits long)
  4. Your vehicle’s year, make, and model (ex: 2022 Subaru Forester)

That’s all we’ll need to get in touch with your carrier and start the claims process. In the meantime, we’ll schedule your repair appointment with our mobile auto glass repair team. We can meet you at your home or work to fix your windshield and get you back on the road safely.

What Will I Owe?

If you’re filing an insurance claim, it’s most likely that you won’t owe anything. We’ll submit the claims paperwork to your carrier and bill them directly. We won’t ask for payment from you at the time of your windshield repair service. After the work is completed, be sure to follow up with your insurance agent to make sure the claim has been processed and closed.
